Breakout Halves Fees on Index, Oil and Metals Trades and Lists Gold at 5x

Breakout cut its fee on every non-crypto market from 0.04% to 0.02% per side on 29 October, including on accounts traders already hold. It also listed gold at 5x with a $500,000 cap, plus Brent crude, copper and natural gas. Crypto fees stay at 0.04%, and the daily swap fee hasn't changed.

What happened

Breakout, the crypto-focused prop firm backed by Kraken, has halved its trading fee on every non-crypto market and listed gold. Both changes took effect on 29 October 2026. The firm announced them on X (opens in new tab) and in a blog post (opens in new tab), and its symbols page (opens in new tab) and program rules (opens in new tab) already show the new rate. We read all three on 30 October.

  • Fee cut: orders in the Nasdaq 100 (XYZ100), the S&P 500, WTI crude (CL) and silver now cost 0.02% per side, down from 0.04%. That is 4 basis points for a round trip instead of 8.
  • Gold: listed as GOLD at 5x leverage with a $500,000 maximum position, the largest cap of any commodity on Breakout.
  • Three more markets: Brent crude (BRENTOIL, 5x, $200,000 cap), copper (COPPER, 10x, $50,000) and natural gas (NATGAS, 3x, $50,000). That takes Breakout to eight non-crypto markets.

Breakout says the cut came after traders told it "our fees were too high, in reviews and pretty much everywhere else."

Who gets the lower fee

The lower rate applies automatically to Classic, Pro and Turbo accounts, both evaluation and funded, including accounts you already hold. You don't need to do anything.

What doesn't change:

  • Crypto fees stay at 0.04% per side. That covers BTC, ETH, SOL and the rest of the crypto list, which is still most of what Breakout offers.
  • Daily loss limits and maximum drawdown are unchanged, and leverage is still set automatically for each market.
  • Spark accounts are excluded. Breakout says they already pay their own lower commission on non-crypto markets.
  • The swap fee is unchanged at 0.033% a day per open position, charged in six parts every four hours, according to the program rules.

What it means in dollars

Fees are charged on notional size, so the saving grows with position size:

Round trip onBefore (0.08%)Now (0.04%)
$100,000 of XYZ100 or S&P 500$80$40
$200,000 of CL or silver (the cap)$160$80
$500,000 of GOLD (the cap)n/a$200

These fees count against your account's results. Breakout's help center says the fees on evaluations are "notional": they affect your performance but aren't charged to your card. A smaller fee leaves more room before you hit a loss limit.

The new markets

All four new markets trade 24/7 in the Breakout Terminal. Breakout's symbols page lists DXtrade for most crypto pairs, but not for any of the non-crypto markets. If you trade on DXtrade, you can't use the new markets there.

Breakout says you can hold the new markets "for days or weeks." If you do, remember the swap. At 0.033% a day, a week's hold costs about 0.23% of the position. That is more than five times the new 0.04% round-trip trading fee, assuming swap is charged on position value like the trading fee. On multi-day holds, the swap matters more than the fee cut.

The firm also adds a warning of its own: "a lower fee makes each trade cheaper, not safer." Copper at 10x and natural gas around storage reports can use up a daily loss allowance quickly.

Our take

This is a real price cut on existing accounts, not a promotion with a code and an end date, and that is the point worth noticing. For traders using Breakout for index, oil or metals exposure, the cost of every trade has halved overnight. Crypto traders, still most of Breakout's users, get nothing yet, and the firm only says crypto fees aren't changing "at the moment." Gold's $500,000 cap is large next to the other commodities, but the leverage is 5x, so a full-size gold position needs a large account. Check the symbols page (opens in new tab) for current caps before you size a trade, since Breakout says it will update limits there.

Breakout is listed in the ProprietaryTrading.com directory. Our earlier report covers its Spark launch.
