From 6 October, Goat Funded Trader treats any VPN, VPS, proxy or hosted setup used while trading as a straight breach, with payouts from that trading voided. That rules out EAs that need a VPS. It also now allows copy trading between your own accounts, but the cut to a 1-minute minimum hold time only covers challenges bought from 6 October.

What happened

Goat Funded Trader (GFT) now bans VPNs, VPSs, proxies and any other hosted or IP-routing setup while you trade, on every account. Its help center says the rule took effect on 6 October 2026. If GFT detects one of these services during trading, the account is a straight breach, and any payout earned from that trading is not eligible for payment.

The same week, GFT loosened two other rules. It now lets you copy trades between your own GFT accounts, and it cut the minimum holding time from 2 minutes to 1 minute. But the shorter hold time does not apply to everyone, even though the announcement said it did.

The VPN and VPS ban

GFT's article Can I use a VPN, VPS, proxy, or any other hosting service while trading? (updated 6 October) answers with one word: "No." The ban covers:

  • VPNs
  • VPSs
  • proxies
  • remote or hosted environments
  • "any other hosting or routing solution used to access or trade on the trading platform"

There is one exception. If you need a VPN to find or connect to GFT's trading server the first time (GFT gives the example of some users in Pakistan), you can use it for that first login only. You must disconnect it before you place any trade. Trading while still connected is a straight breach.

GFT's IP Address and Account Access Policy, also updated 6 October, repeats the rule and says it applies "on all accounts." The same policy says the IP region you buy from and the region you trade from should stay "reasonably consistent." If you travel, GFT's risk team may ask for travel tickets, passport stamps or video verification. If you can't show that you alone run the account, it can be restricted, breached or suspended.

This is a big tightening. Dave Finances reports that before this change, GFT allowed VPNs subject to location checks, and its VPS limits only covered accounts bought from 12 August, with some instant-account products still allowed to use one. The new wording drops the purchase-date cutoff entirely.

What it means for EA traders

GFT still allows an Expert Advisor (EA), an automated trading program, if you built it yourself. Purchased, shared and off-the-shelf EAs remain banned, and so are HFT systems and gold-arbitrage EAs. GFT can ask for proof you own it, such as the source code. Its EA article (updated 6 October) now adds: "If your EA needs a VPS to run, you cannot use it on a Goat Funded Trader account."

In practice, a self-built EA has to run from your own machine and connection. Most retail MetaTrader EA traders use a VPS precisely so the strategy stays online through power cuts or a computer that's switched off. Under GFT's new rule, the reason you're on a VPS doesn't matter. Trading through one is the breach.

The loosened rules, and the catch in the hold-time cut

GFT's announcement, as published on Prop Firm Match's announcements feed on 7 October, said it "removed two rules" and that "both changes are live now on all accounts."

Copy trading between your own accounts: yes, all accounts. GFT's Using Signals article (updated 6 October) confirms you can copy between your own evaluation accounts, your own funded accounts, and between evaluation and funded in either direction, "whenever they were purchased." Copying signal providers, other traders, a broker account or another prop firm is still banned.

The 1-minute hold time: only for newer accounts. GFT's own minimum holding time article (updated 5 October) doesn't match "all accounts":

Challenge purchasedMinimum holding time on the funded account
Before 6 October 2026 (00:00 UTC)2 minutes (120 seconds)
From 6 October 2026 (00:00 UTC)1 minute (60 seconds)

A funded account follows the purchase date of the challenge it came from. A reset of a challenge bought before 6 October stays at 2 minutes, even if you reset it later. The rule only applies to funded accounts, not evaluations. Breaking it is not a breach either: GFT removes the profit from any trade held under the minimum when you request a payout, while losses from those trades still count.

What traders should do

  • Check your setup, not just your strategy. If you trade GFT through a VPS, a work or privacy VPN, a remote desktop or a cloud terminal, stop before your next trade. The penalty is a breach plus losing the payout, not a warning.
  • EA users: move a self-built EA to your own computer, or keep it off GFT.
  • Travelling? GFT recommends telling support before you trade from another country, and keeping booking records in case the risk team asks.
  • Older accounts: keep holding winning trades for 2 minutes on any funded account that came from a challenge bought before 6 October, resets included, or you'll lose that profit at payout.

What this article is not claiming

  • We are not saying GFT failed to notify existing traders. Its help center sets the 6 October effective date, but we haven't seen what direct notice, if any, customers got.
  • We are not claiming partner or affiliate status with GFT.

FAQ

Q: Can I use a VPN at all with GFT?
A: Only to find or connect to the trading server on your first login, and you must disconnect it before trading. GFT says this is the only exception.

Q: Does the VPS ban apply to accounts I bought before 6 October?
A: Yes. GFT's policy says hosting and IP-routing services are prohibited during trading "on all accounts" from 6 October 2026.

Q: Is the 1-minute minimum hold time live on my account?
A: Only if the challenge behind your funded account was bought on or after 6 October 2026 (00:00 UTC). Older challenges and their resets stay at 2 minutes.

Q: Can I copy trades from my GFT challenge to my GFT funded account?
A: Yes, on all accounts, whenever they were bought. You still can't copy anyone else's trades, a broker account, or another prop firm.
